Your data belongs to you. We use only what we need, protect it fiercely, and never sell it to anyone.
DemoCry ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over it.
This policy applies to all users of DemoCry, regardless of location. Where applicable, we comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019, and other relevant privacy laws.

We do not use your data to:
Because video contains biometric-identifying information, we treat it as a special category of personal data requiring extra protection.
When you cast a vote, you are asked to record a short video (typically 1-3 seconds) of yourself speaking a specific phrase (for example: "I want peace" or "I want war").
Before any video is captured, you will be asked to explicitly consent to this process. You may vote using alternative verification methods (where available) if you prefer not to provide video.
Votes on DemoCry are recorded on the Stellar blockchain to ensure they are permanent, publicly verifiable, and cannot be manipulated.
Because blockchain records are immutable by design, once a vote is recorded it cannot be edited, deleted, or reversed, even by us. This is a fundamental design choice to protect the integrity of the vote against future political pressure or corporate takeover.
Under GDPR "right to erasure", we will delete your personal identifying data from our systems on request. However, the anonymized vote itself remains on chain and is not personally identifying to you.
Under GDPR, we process your data on the following legal bases:
We share your data only with:
All third-party processors are bound by contract to protect your data to at least the same standard as this policy. A full list of current processors is available on request from privacy@democry.world.
DemoCry operates globally. Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your own, including the United Kingdom, Kenya, and jurisdictions where our service providers operate.
Where data is transferred outside the UK/EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including:
| Data Type | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Account data | While your account is active + 90 days after closure |
| Payment records | 7 years (tax and legal compliance) |
| Video verification files | Deleted within 72 hours |
| Vote records on blockchain | Permanent (immutable by design, but anonymized) |
| Support communications | 3 years |
| Security/fraud logs | 12 months |
We take extensive measures to protect your data. Full details are in our Security Statement. In summary:
Under GDPR, UK GDPR, and Kenya's Data Protection Act, you have the following rights:
